Detroit Hawk City

The Seattle Seahawks are in the Super Bowl.

You may wish, especially if you’re a Seahawk fan, to say this out loud several times. It takes some time to sink in.

The Seattle Seahawks are in the Super Bowl.

I don’t know how much can be said about the game today. A red-hot Carolina team came into Qwest Field and got splattered. Jake Delhomme looked like he should be starting for the Juanita High School JV team instead of a conference championship. Steve Smith finished with exactly five more receiving yards (33-28) than the Seahawks’ backup quarterback Seneca Wallace. A heralded Carolina secondary was shredded by Matt Hasselbeck. The MVP ran for 132 very tough yards. And for the second week in a row, Seattle took on a team that was though to be tougher, more “roughneck” in Dr. Z’s words.

Nope.

Seattle was faster and tougher, and most importantly they were just plain better than the Panthers. This is, without any question, the best team in the NFC. Now, all they have to do is prove to be the best team in the NFL.

Seahawks and Steelers in the Motor City.

The Seattle Seahawks are in the Super Bowl. Do you believe it yet?

As a long suffering Seattle sports fan I half expect to wake up for work in the morning only to realize that the sun has exploded or that the earth has fallen out of orbit and is hurtling through space or Jesus has returned or something like that. It's too good to be true. It's got to almost be the end of the world if the Seahawks are playing for the Super Bowl.

Now that the glow has faded from your first trip to the Bowl, how do you think the game unfolds?

After all, the Hawks had serious trouble going against Dallas in the 3-4 — you needed a gift interception from Drew Bledsoe to win the game — and the Steelers make the Cowboys look like amateurs in the scheme.

Could be a very interesting game.

Man, I dunno... I think the Seahawks are a significantly better team now than the one who faced Dallas, but the Steelers are pretty damned good too.

I think it all comes down to getting off to a fast start. Both teams have came out hot in each of their playoff wins. The team that can continue that will win.

I would disagree with the assessment that the Seahawks "came out hot" in the Washington game. They actually came out staggering, and the Skins actually had a chance to bury them if Carlos Rogers had held onto that interception. It wasn't until the second half that the Seahawks took charge. At least in my opinion.
