Well, this kinda sucks don’t it?

Merry Christmas to me!

What did I get? Laid off!

Yeah, I know… it does suck, doesn’t it? We found out yesterday. As of Valentines Day, our entire division will be shutting down. It does not come as any real shock. Our division, which is a bit of an oddity in the company anyway, hasn’t been doing well the last few months. We had a restructuring a few months ago where some got laid off, and others (like me) were transferred. We thought that did the trick and we stabilized.

Guess not, huh?

The company got tired of our extraneous asses (our unit is in a different discipline than the rest of the company; we are the only unit still based in California), wasn’t able to sell us, and decided to liquidate. If we stick around until the end, we get a small severance package, health insurance until the end of February. Then we are on our own.

I’m taking this better than I would have imaginedm and so is most of the office. It did not surprise anyone. If anything, there is a great sense of relief at the office. At least we know what is coming now.

Of course, if I’m still here come February, I may think differently.

My condolences, man. I hereby offer you a charter membership in the "2004 Is My Worst Year Ever" club. Papa Shaft and I are already in, and I've got BallWonk on line 1.

In 2004, I lost a job, a great girlfriend, a presidential election, and now I'm about to lose the baseball team I've been dreaming of since I was old enough to walk. I've had better years.

Of course, you got married this year, didn't you? So there are consolations for you...

Yeah, I think that has to make up for the sucky ending. As for your 04-the Nats aren't gone yet, and you always have 2008.

And if you're willing to move...Ensie does have a best friend... just a thought.

Move to San Diego? It's tempting, but I don't know what I'd do with all that nice weather...

Wow Frinklin, you sure are taking this in stride. With an attitude like that, you're sure to land on your feet.

Now can tell me how to find the Jedi on Datooine? :)

Fred: Actually, she doesn't live here. She's in Chicago, lawyer, serious liberal, really smart..

Richard: Thank You... I needed that.

And I'm assuming you haven't found Vrook on Dantooine. If that is the case you need to have been to the Crystal Cave. After that go to the sublevel of the demolished enclave. You'll find a smarmy fellow called the Disciple. If your a female, you're stuck with him. If your male, just chat with him. After you're done, roam around the room and your find a datapad from the mercenary leader stating that they want Vrook alive.

Head back to the crystal cave, and he (and the mercenaries) are in the hiding spot.

How's THAT for service!

Huge baseball fan too.. though it is the Dodgers, and that's kinda evil.

Chicago, you say? Hmmm... put in a good word for me, would you?

Hang in there, and make the most of the opportunity. Two years ago when my last employer went under -- the second of my most recent three employers to go belly-up, and I'd been with this one for 11 years -- I started my own business, and have never been happier.

Part of the trick of life is learning to spin spiderwebs into silk. Find something you love to do, and go do it.
